Boxes, Everywhere
Boxes. So many boxes. Sparkling water, shaving cream, and shoes all arrive in boxes. Some boxes are meant to be unpacked, their items shelved, and boxes broken down for recycling. Other boxes have more questionable contents, ones that we have to determine if they fit our homes, our bodies, our lifestyles. If they don’t belong in our lives, the items get packed back into the box, shipped to a return location.
Do you remember a time when boxes were less frequent? You would arrive home from a trip and the only thing waiting for you was mail. Even then, your mailbox might be empty if your neighbor got your mail for you, a common neighborly favor since you didn’t want your mailbox to overflow. Now, as we swim in boxes, we can’t imagine an overflowing mailbox. Back before online bills, online shopping, and online emails, there were paper bills, paper catalogs, and promo flyers. You had to get the mail every day. Now, days go by without checking the mail. The only true consequence being jury duty, the one piece of mail that has a strict deadline and no online presence. Why is that?
