March Reads
March is coming to an end, so it is time to round up some books I read!
Every Day I Read: 53 Ways to Get Closer to Books, Hwang Bo-reum
This author explores her relationship with reading and the different reasons why reading brings joy into her life. As an avid reader, I loved reading a book about reading! One line in particular really stood out to me:
“You can transform your life – Süskind believes this is why we read. I repeat this under my breath, feeling comforted knowing that if I am a slightly different person after reading a book, it’s OK if I don’t remember every word.”
I needed to read this. I often forget the characters, the plot, and even the ending. But it’s not about remembering every detail of the book. It’s about the experience while reading it and how it becomes ingrained in me, somewhere and somehow.
Lake Effect, Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney
My Kindle was full of nonfiction books, none of which caught my attention when I was lying in bed at 10 P.M. I treated myself to this new release by the author of The Nest, and I was not disappointed!
The First Time I Saw Him, Laura Dave
I did not like her first book, The Last Time He Told Me, so why would I read the sequel? I listened to a podcast interview with the author who described the process of writing the second book. She wrote the first book, and Reese Witherspoon made it into a TV show starring Jennifer Garner. The author wrote the second after the TV show came out. Seeing her characters come to life influenced how she wrote the second book. For example, Jennifer Garner proved to be quite a physical powerhouse, so she wrote more physical scenes for her in the second book.
Did I enjoy the second book? Or the show? Still, no. But, the more I write the more I am interested in how other people write. This book/TV combo was an interesting learning experience for me!
